Psychologist, writer, and curious observer of people, purpose and the places that shape us.
I'm Kate Meyer, a psychologist and writer based in Tasmania, Australia. For more than 25 years, my work has centred on people — how we work, lead, connect, adapt and find meaning in what we do.
I've also long been interested in the experiences that shape us — those that change our perspective, connect us to others, or stay with us long after they have ended. Antarctica has been one of those experiences for me. Over the years, it has woven its way through my life in unexpected ways — first through my experience of the continent, later through my work as a psychologist, and now through my writing.
That connection now sits at the heart of Women of Antarctica, a project exploring the stories of women who have lived and worked in Antarctica and what those experiences have meant in their lives.
Women of Antarctica
Women of Antarctica is a writing and oral history project exploring the stories of women who have lived and worked in Antarctica and the sub-Antarctic — what took them there, what life was really like, and what the experience has meant in the years since.
Writing
Writing gives me a different way to explore many of the questions that have interested me throughout my career — about people, purpose, identity, connection and the experiences that shape our lives.
Much of my writing currently leads back to Antarctica, including Women of Antarctica and reflections on my own experiences of the continent. But this is also a place for other stories, ideas and observations about people and the lives we create.
Psychology
My work as a psychologist spans more than 25 years across military, organisational and operational settings, with particular interests in leadership, people development, coaching and adaptation to challenging environments.
