Writing gives me a different way to explore many of the things I’ve been curious about throughout my life and career — people, purpose, identity, connection, and the experiences that shape us.
Some of my writing draws on my background as a psychologist and more than 25 years working with people in military, organisational and operational settings. Other pieces are more personal — reflections on experiences, places and ideas that have stayed with me or made me think differently.
Increasingly, my writing is taking me back to Antarctica, including through Women of Antarctica, but I’m also interested in the much broader question of how we make sense of our experiences and the lives we choose to create.
Beyond the Uniform
Beyond the Uniform is a practical guide for people preparing to transition from military service and navigate the psychological changes that can accompany it.
Informed by more than 25 years of military psychology experience, together with the voices of those who have navigated transition themselves, it explores some of the less visible aspects of leaving service — including changes in identity, purpose, belonging, relationships and the adjustment to life beyond the military.
I wrote Beyond the Uniform to help people think about these changes before they leave, rather than only once they find themselves navigating them. It is provided free of charge in the hope that it supports serving members and their families through this important period of change.

Reflections & Stories
Not everything I write belongs to a larger project. Sometimes it begins with an experience, a conversation, a place, or simply something I find myself thinking about.
Reflections & Stories is a collection of shorter pieces about people, psychology, Antarctica, work, life and the things that make me curious.
